Fun at the hospital

So, Zeke got sick a week ago, and we kept on hoping that he would get better on his own. On Monday, we brought him in to urgent care. Diagnosis: ear infection with possibly strep throat as well. His high fever continued, and on Wednesday, we took him back to the doctor. This time his chest was rattling and he was dehydrated. The student health clinic really isn't equipped to deal with pediatric patients, so we were sent to the emergency room for treatment. When we got there, they did a chest x-ray. Apparently it was pretty bad. So instead of an IV and breathing treatment in the emergency room, he was fully admitted into the hospital. After 1 day, he was looking much better already, and eating solid foods again. But he refused ALL liquids. From any container. He continued to look better, and was getting pretty feisty by Friday night. Active, and wanting to touch everything. So this morning we took a chance. He still refused to drink anything, but we decided to take him home anyway. Well, just a few minutes after getting home, we offered him a bottle of formula. He quickly drank 5 oz. He just really HATED the hospital!!!! He has been even more active at home.

He is not fully well, and still has some stuff in his lungs. And he must keep drinking, or he'll be back in the hospital. Still, we're happy to have him back home, and so are all of the kids! Anna especially missed her playmate.

I have a couple pictures, which I will have to post later.

Typical day?

So, slept in a little bit today. Helped take care of Zeke and Anna while Tom got the big boys ready for school. Jacob, of course, forgot his backpack. Tom got home in time to get a call from the school - Sam has pinkeye. He went back, picked up Sam, and dropped of Jacob's backpack. Tom was late at this point, but took the bus anyway. At least he doesn't have classes yet.

Then we got a phone call from a "lawyer's office" that Tom owes someone money, and we needed to call them back right away. Not a real person - computerized message. And total BS. We don't owe anyone money. And Tom just saw his credit report and score (which is excellent). Not going to phish us!

Then maintenance came in to work on the bathroom sink, which is horribly clogged. Yesterday they took off the trap, replaced some things, and tried to snake it out. Now it's worse than when we called them. The line is connected to our 3 neighbors, so they want to fix it asap. So they're bringing in a plumber. The may have to tear out the wall to fix it. Glad it's not me that has to do it!

And the home purchase is definitely on. Not sure on the closing date. By the 30th for sure, but maybe sooner if everything works out. We got the sellers to agree to 1,000 in repair costs. It had previously been $500, but we wanted more after discovering that the weatherhead pipe (electrical entry for the house) needed to be replaced. Apparently they ignored the damage after the ice storm a year ago. I think it's bent at least 30 degrees. That and a new electrical panel will be the repairs we focus on first. Don't get me wrong - overall, the house is in great shape for being built in '65. There's just some things I won't compromise on.

Meanwhile, still waiting for Lydia to make her appearance. I wouldn't mind her being late if I weren't worried about interfering with Tom's classes. Or the fact that my grandpa seems to be doing worse, and I want to be able to make the trip for his funeral. I can't travel until after she's born.

That's my ramblings for the day. LOL

Tom's Movie Quote Quiz

Here's a game I heard of. Think of 20 movies you like, find quotes from them, and see if people can guess the movies. Here are mine:
  1. Just fear me, love me, do as I say, and I will be your slave.
  2. San Dimas High School football rules!
  3. A man cannot call himself well-contented until he has done all he can to be of service to his employer.
  4. "Do you want consummate musicianship or fame and fortune?" "Fame and fortune."
  5. "You can't smell wine, can't taste it!" "But I remember."
  6. You've got serious thrill issues, dude.
  7. In a past life, this worm could have been your mother.
  8. I am not a gun.
  9. It's 6:03, and the heirs to my dominion are scrubbed and tubbed, and adequately fed.
  10. More's the pity. Then your tailors will rule the land, and no one will make the clothes. So much for French fashion, and French politics.
  11. Anybody want a peanut?
  12. Well, I want to go to Bombay, India and become a movie star.
  13. I'm expendable. I'm the guy in the episode who dies to prove how serious the situation is. I've gotta get outta here.
  14. Yeah, I kissed a girl, and this other fella didn't like it, so we had some words, and so I decided to get out of there. So I did, I got out of there. You know me, Emmett, I don't want no trouble.
  15. Kirby? That's not even a name!
  16. Me, die? And miss all the excitement? Ha-ha, no. I was merely dormant while my body repaired itself. Ah well, enough with the details. Suffice it to say, you're on Rylos, my boy.
  17. To die is nothing. To jump the great boa is everything.
  18. Well, I'm not used to supposin'. I'm just a workin' man. My boss does all the supposin' - but I'll try one. Supposin' you talk us all out of this and, uh, the kid really did knife his father?
  19. "I want peace on earth and goodwill toward man." "Oh, this is ridiculous." "He's serious."
  20. We are the melodies and the notes of your opus. We are the music of your life.
After gathering these, they seemed a bit too morbid at times. I changed a couple of my first picks for quotes to lighten things up a bit, but I kept the same movies. Note that these movies aren't all favorites, but I remember at least liking all of them. And some of them are among my favorites.

I also tried mixing obscure and common movies, and obscure and more memorable quotes.

Feel free to comment with guesses here (or guesses on Facebook or MyFamily.com where I'm linking from), but don't cheat before making guesses.

Christmas Presents

Just a post with videos from Christmas presents for now. Here's us starting:

And here's a cool but simple robot I got from Grandpa Shaltes. I feel bad mixing up the Steves in the video. I was just having fun taking advantage of Anna's fear and wasn't paying attention to names. Or maybe if I'd left them mixed up, Steve S. would more easily forgive my traumatizing her:

But it's safer when Zeke is holding it:

Well, maybe Steve S. will forgive me. It was fun.

Looks Like Lydia

We had an ultrasound today. I won't show all the details, but it definitely looked like a girl. Here are some nice 3D face shots, though:

That's a leg going past the face in the second one.

Big Boy Zeke

We gave people hair cuts yesterday. Here's what Zeke looks like now:

And walking around all over now, too, he's changed a lot in the past two months since we came to Oklahoma.

Our trip to OK

From a long time ago - please excuse any editing mistakes, as this was posted somewhere else (I added names and changed some things around):

So, Friday, Tom and I worked furiously to get everything done. Packing, errands, cleaning, etc. We had hoped to be done, at least with the packing, that night, and leave in the morning. Hahahaha. So Friday evening comes, and little cleaning has been done, and the packing has a long way to go. You know all that random stuff you're just not sure what to do with? Add to that - this all needed to fit in or on top of our car. I should have taken a picture of what it looked like when we were all done, but you'll just have to believe me that the car was FULL. By the time we got that and minimal cleaning done, it was 2pm. UGH.

Oh - a step back. Friday night, we stopped for a few minutes and let the kids play outside the garage. Jacob had his "light saber" (you know - the ones that collapse into the handle). At some point, he decided that he needed to kill a spider with the hilt. He swung it high over his head - and hit David who was standing behind him. He got a nice deep gash on his forehead. Thankfully, the bleeding stopped quickly. A neighbor brought over some of her first aid supplies for us to use. We decided that he would be ok without an ER visit, since it wasn't long.

Back to Saturday. I should say that we had wonderful neighbors (that we knew before we moved in) that helped. Watching kids, helping to clean, etc. And they fed us lunch too. So, we are finally on the road by 2 or 2:30. The actual trip went smoothly. No major delays, kids did fine. And since we were so late, we missed ALL the traffic in LA. Arrived in Pheonix about 2:30am. Of course, Anna and Zeke wake up and won't go back down. Tom was a trooper, and took them out to the car. I did my best to sleep.

Sunday, we go to church. Tom's brothers are all at his dad's. After church, we try to get some naps in. Then we celebrate Tom's birthday (and they sang to everyone with a summer birthday - but it was Tom's actual b-day).

So, Monday Brenda has her Kindergartner play hooky (year-round school) to come play with the boys. We watch Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D (better than expected), and eat at a local Guatemalan restaurant. Tuesday, Tom and I take some time out to go to the temple. We had been planning on going to Tucson that night, but decided to wait until the next morning after hearing that some of them had been sick (they had gone home sun night). Got to check email.

Wednesday we head down to Tucson. Forgot our bottle and formula. Sigh. Mostly just hang out & talk.

Thursday we drive out to El Paso. Go to a place called Incredible Pizza with my cousin, and let the kids run around and have fun.

Friday we drive to Arlington to stay at Alden's home. Got there 7 or 8pm.

Saturday, went to a park. Kids played while the men played "HORSE" (do you remember that one?). Then went back to the friend's house for barbeque. Left not too long after, so we could get to Gilmer before dark.

Arrived in Gilmer. Sunday we go to church, and just have a lazy day. All of us are tired by this point, and are still trying to adjust to the time zone difference. Monday is another lazy day. The kids did get to meet their horses when they were being fed. None are rideable right now. The one that used to be had gotten sick and had too much of a break. The other 2 they are trying to get healthy & trained.

Tuesday Tom and I went out to celebrate our anniversary early. Played some mini-golf, ate at Red Lobster (yum!), and watched Hancock (too much cussing!).

Wednesday we went to visit Steve's brother's dairy farm. We help bottle-feed the calves. None of them are brave enough to let them suck on their fingers, as much as grandma tried to show them it was ok.

Thursday, Zeke had diarrhea. Sigh. Did laundry and tried to get packed to leave the next day.

Friday, drove up to Norman. Signed papers & got into the apartment, did a tiny bit of basic shopping, and made some phone calls to figure out what happened to our shipping box.

Apparently the guy that took my order never wrote the delivery date I wanted anywhere. I can't say for sure we had an exact address that we gave them or not, all I know is that he didn't take the order correctly. We managed to get a drop-off scheduled for Saturday, but had to call the help we had arranged to reschedule the time. We finally have our box at 4:30, and get it unloaded into the apartment. We rearranged just enough so we could sleep, and then do just that.

The apartment is not exactly what I had hoped for. It's ok, but the grounds are not taken care of as nice as I like. And some things in the apartment were repaired by amateurs. We have new carpet, new blinds, and the light fixtures are new, but I don't know that I would call it "newly updated." Both bathtubs have the finish cracking. One toilet is cracked. Oh, and the fun thing: they didn't put Zeke on our lease agreement. Yep, even though we said we would have 7 people, their policy is to only allow 6 (I thought that was strange, since it's almost 1300 sq ft). So, we're planning on moving out when our lease is up.

Despite the apartments, the neighbors are nice, and the complex is pretty quiet. The walk to school isn't too long, and we don't have to cross ANY streets.
